The Bible #3

Defining Right and Wrong

Intro: What was the worst punishment you ever received when you were a child?

Study

  1. 1 John 2:15-17, 1 Tim 4:1 We live in a world today with no absolutes, and no clear definition of what is right and what is wrong.
    1. 2 Cor 4:4 Many people live with the mindset “If its right for you, then do it” and if its right for me then I will do it”.
      1. Gal 5:19-21 Our culture today accepts many sins; fornication, homosexuality, drunkennes, marajuana… are accepted as normal.
      2. Psalms 14:1 So many people ignore God, and when people don’t answer to God or the Bible, they think they can do what they want.
    2. 2 Tim 3:16-17 The Bible however is the final authority, Gods standards for all mankind, and the ultimate definition of right and wrong.
  2. Deut 30:19 The Bible tells us that when we live by Gods standards, our lives will be good, and when we ignore them, we will have major problems.
    1. 1 Peter 4:2-4 When we as Christians stand for what the Bible says is right, we are accused of being intolerant and judgemental.
      1. Josh 24:15 We can either choose to please everyone around us, or please God, but we cannot please both God and man.
      2. Eph 4:15 We as Christians are called to stand for whats right, to be an example, speaking the truth in love about sin to those around us.
    2. 1 Cor 6:18-20, 2 Cor 4:7 Because we are temples of the Holy Spirit, we need to glorify God, living by what the Bible says is right and wrong.

 Discussion

  1. Can you share some examples of sin that is accepted as normal in our world today?
  2. Why do you think we as Christians are accused of being intolerant when we stand for whats right, and live by Gods standards?
  3. Can you share an example of a time when you stood for what was right when those around you were doing wrong? What effect did this have?
  4. How can we stand for whats right, speaking the truth in love, but not come off judgemental to those around us?

End: Pray for those who have not been living by Gods standards in their lives, pray for salvation/rededication, then take requests.
