Study

  1. Acts 9:1-6 Paul had an encounter with God that changed him forever, his life was never the same after he experienced the reality of God.
    1. 1 John 1:9 Like Paul many youth and young adults have incredible encounters with God at camps, crusades, church, and cell groups where they accept Christ and let go of their sin.
      1. 1 Cor 16:13 Some youth maintain their commitment to Christ after their encounter with God, become involved in church, and go on to become great leaders.
      2. Jeremiah 15:6 There are many youth, however who return from a great encounter with God and fall back into the same old relationships, habits, and sinful lifestyle.
    2. 1 Kings 18:20-21 Many of these youth are stuck in this cycle of being on-fire for God for a while, then they backslide and fall way from God, many who love God, but who can’t seem to break free from this cycle of backsliding.
  2. Leviticus 6:12-13, Deut 8:11The will of God for our lives is that we remain on fire! God wants us to keep the fire burning in our lives, below are three steps we can take to break the cycle.
    1. Lev 6:12 “Add Firewood” In order for us to keep the fire burning and break the cycle we must add to our lives prayer, reading the bible, worship, and times of fasting.
      1. 1. Lev 6:12 “Rearrange” We also need to be willing to rearrange our livestyles and our schedules spending our time in church, cell groups, evangelism, and leadership.
      2. 2. Lev 6:12 “Burn the Fat” We must be willing to get rid of all of the negative influences the “Fat” that put of the fire such as: wrong friendships/dating, music, internet etc…
    2. B. John 8:12, Matt 5:14 God wants us to remain strong and on-fire for him throughout our lives so that our lives will remain blessed in every way and so others will see the fire of God in us and come to know Christ as well! Where are you? Where is your fire?

Discussion

  1. Why do you think there are so many youth who are stuck in a cycle of getting on fire for God when at camp but backslide and fall away from God when they return home?
  2. What are some of the things we must do in our lives personally in order to remain on fire for God and and to keep from backsliding?
  3. What are some of the negative influences “Fat” that we need to get rid of in order to help break the cycle of backsliding in our lives, and remain consistent, solid, and on-fire for God?
  4. Is there anyone here right now struggling with breaking the cycle of backsliding in your personal life? If so what is holding you back?

End: Pray for any who need to accept Christ or recommit their lives to Christ, and pray for any who need to make better decisions in their lives, then take requests.
