 Discovering our victory in God

Intro: What is your favorite sport or activity?

  1. 2 Cor 5:17, John 3:3 When we accept Jesus as our savior, we begin a completely new life in Christ, we start the journey of discovering our true identity.
    1. Gal 5:1 Another important aspect of discovering our true identity in God is discovering that we can have victory over sin and temptation through Christ.
      1. Psalms 51:5, Romans 3:23 While it is true that we are all sinners and even Christians will sin and make mistakes, we don’t have to be controlled by sin.
      2. Matt 15:14 Many people who struggle with sin, addiction, and temptation look to unsaved people for help, or seek answers through other types of sin.
    2. 2 Cor 3:17, John 14:6 Only when we know Christ and surrender to him can we have freedom and victory in our lives, there is no other option!
  2. Rom 10:9-10, Acts 4:12The way that we begin a life of victory over sin, addiction and temptation is to choose to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and savior, this is step one.
    1. 1 John 1:9, James 5:16 Our second step to victory is to confess our sin both to God and then to others who are strong in God and who can help us grow.
      1. Eph 4:27 The third step in maintaining our victory is to to embarras our sin, we need to expose every opportunity to mess up, we will need to end bad friendships, bad dating relationships, and get rid of what causes us to sin.
      2. Heb 10:36 The forth step in remaining victorious is that we must persevere in prayer, reading the bible, worship, church, and leading in the ministry.
    2. Matt 6:33 When we accept Christ, confess and embarras our sin, then persevere in our walk with God, we will find victory and discover our true identity!

  1. What are some of the places many people look to outside of God to have victory over sin, temptations and addictions?
  2. Who is someone you have in your life who is a mentor, or spiritual authority who you can open up to, confess your sin, and who will tell you the truth?
  3. Who can share a testimony of a sin, addiction or temptation you now have victory over through Christ?
  4. What are some relationships you need to end, or things you need to get rid of so you can maintain victory over sin and temptation?

End: Pray for any who need to get saved, or rededicate their lives to Christ, then pray for any who need victory over sin and temptation in God, then take requests.
