Intro: What would you like to do one day in your life, and why?

Study

  1. Col 3:1-4, 1 Peter 2:9 One of the most important issues facing this generation in all parts of the world is the question of Identity.
    1. Phil 3:20 Gal 3:3 Many youth and young adults are searching for their identity, trying to find out who they are and what they are supposed to do in life.
      1. Prov 31:30 Many young women search for their identity in friendships, dating relationships, beauty, attention, and image.
      2. Titus 2:6-7 Many young men search for identity in friends, dating, career, money, and sports.
    2. Prov 16:9 What we choose to find our identity in determines the choices we make, and the way we go in life.
  2. Prov 16:25, 2 Peter 3:17 If we search for our identity in the things of the world, then we are led by the things of the world, and we become like the world.
    1. Matt 6:33 But if we search for our identity in Christ, then we are led by Christ, and we become like Christ.
      1. Deut 30:19 The end result of following the things of the world is hopelessness, disappointment, insecurity, discouragement, and lost identity.
      2. Jer 29:11 The end result of turning to Christ to find our identity is forgiveness, hope, joy, security, purpose, direction, confidence, and true identity.
    2. Gen 1:27, Phil 3:20 Each of us have a choice, whether we will look to the world, or to Christ in our search for our identity.

  1. What are some of the many things you feel youth and young adults are looking to in their search for identity?
  2. Have you personally ever struggled with your identity? What were somethings that you looked to in your search for identity?
  3. What are some of the negative results you have seen in the lives of people who turned to the things of the world?
  4. What are some of the positive results that people experience when they choose to find their identity in Christ?
