Identity Lesson #6

The Voices

Intro: Who is one of the most encouraging people in your life?

  1. Col 3:1-4, 1 Peter 2:9 One of the most important issues facing this generation in all parts of the world is the question of identity.
    1. 2 Cor 6:17 Our identity is not only influenced by the things of the world, but our identity is greatly impacted by the voices that surround us.
      1. Gen 3:1-4 Since the beginning of time Satan has been speaking to mankind lying about the identity of God and identity of who we are.
      2. 2 Cor 11:3 Satan tries to accuse God to us, he will lie to us and tell us that God is holding out on us, doesn’t care for us, and wont provide for our needs.
    2. John 8:44 Satan will also lie to us about who we are, he tells some that there not good enough, or that they are a failure, he tells others that they are ugly, fat, stupid, or that they are homosexual.
  2. 2 Cor 10:14, Rev 12:9 The devil will trick us into thinking that his voice is our own thoughts so that we own the identity that he wants us to take.
    1. 2 Tim 2:25-26 If we accept the false identity that the devil wants to put on us, than we do the devils will, but if we accept our true identity in God then we do God’s will.
      1. 2 Cor 10:3-5 We have to learn how to expose, and confront the voice of the devil and discover who God created us to be.
      2. Ps 111:10, Isaiah 55:3 Our discovery of who God created us to be begins with our repentance and surrender and continues as hear the voice of God through prayer, studying the Bible, worship, and fellowship.
    2. 2 Cor 5:17 We then close the doors to the old voices by eliminating all wrong influences and surround ourselves with the right voices, people, and influences.

  1. In what ways has the devil tried to lie to you personally about your identity and who you are?
  2. How do we confront the devils lies about our identity and overcome the voice of the devil when he tries to speak to us?
  3. What are some of the wrong influences that we need eliminate from our lives so we can discover who God created us to be?
  4. What are some of the positive personality traits that God has given you? What do you think God may be calling you to do with your life?

End: Pray for anyone who needs to confront and overcome wrong voices in their lives, then pray for any requests.
