Identity of God Lesson #1

 Who is God?

Intro: What characteristics do you have that are the same as your parents or other family members?

  1. 2 Cor 4:4, 1 Tim 4:1 We are living in a world today that is confused about the reality of God, and the identity of who God is.
    1. 1 Tim 2:5-6 There are 1000’s of religions with many people who have a different idea of the identity of God.
      1. 1 Cor 2:14 There are also many who just simply do not beleive in God at all for one reason or another.
      2. Gen 1:1, John 3:16 And there are many Christians who beleive in God as the creator of the world who sent his son Jesus to die on the Cross for our sins.
    2. John 14:6-11, Deut 6:4 We must understand that there are not many Gods, nor are there many different truths, there is only one way, one truth, and one absolute.
  2. Ps 51:5, 1 Cor 15:57 We are all born into sin, every culture in every part of the world deals with good and evil, right and wrong and the only answer to sin is Christ.
    1. John 14:2, Matt 25:41 Heaven and hell are real, when we accept Christ as our savior we escape hell and spend eternity in heaven.
      1. Rom 1:20-21 The problem is when people have a wrong identity of God then the result is confusion in this life and eternity in hell.
      2. Psalms 111:10 The way that we discover the identity of who God is begins with our personal salvation, when we accept Christ we gain true wisdom.
    2. Jer 29:11-14, 2 Thess 5:17 We continue to discover more about Gods true identity as we pray, read the bible, worship, and become involved in church and the ministry

  1. Why do you think so many today in this generation are confused about the identity of God?
  2. Have you ever shared Christ with someone who was an atheist? Or someone who was a part of another religion? How did they respond to you?
  3. Why is it so important as Christians to hold to the truth about who God really is, but also show people love?
  4. What are some was we can communicate to the world the true identity of God?

End: Pray for all who need to accept Christ or rededicate their lives to Christ, pray for the lost people your cell groups are reaching out to, then pray for any requests.
