The Holy Spirit

Intro: What is your favorite drink between coffee, tea, and soda ?

Study

  1. Matt 28:19, 2 Cor 13:14 God is clearly identified in the Bible as three distinct persons in one, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, known as the Trinity.
    1. John 15:26 In this lesson we want to look at the identity of God the Holy Spirit who comes to convict us, comfort us, and empower us.
      1. John 16:8 The Holy Spirit will convict us when we have done wrong, this conviction is not meant to condemn us, but rather is to lead us to repentance.
      2. Rom 8:13-14 The Holy Spirit will also convict us, attempting to protect us from harm, from taking the wrong direction, and from those who could hurt us.
    2. John 14:26, 2 Cor 1:3-4 When we repent and surrender to God, The Holy Spirit will comfort us, heal us, and restore us.
  2. Zech 4:6, Luke 24:49 The Holy Spirit will then fill us with power to accomplish great things for God that we could not do in our own strength.
    1. Luke 10:19 We receive this anointing of power from the Holy Spirit when we step out in obedience to obey what God has directed us to do.
      1. Mt 10:19-20, Matt 10:1 The Holy Spirit will empower us to share Christ with others, pray for people to be healed, delivered and see other miracles happen
      2. Romans 8:26, 1 Cor 12:9-12, 31 The Holy Spirit will also empower us in times of prayer and will anoint us to move in the different gifts of the spirit.
    2. 2 Cor 5:20, Acts 1:8 God wants us to respond to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, repent and receive comfort from the Holy Spirit, so we can then be empowered by the Holy Spirit to go out into the world and lead more people to Christ!

Discussion

  1. Who can share a testimony of a time when you were convicted by the Holy Spirit and you listened? In what ways were you protected from harm?
  2. In what ways have you been comforted, healed, delivered and set free by the power of the Holy Spirit?
  3. Who has a testimony of a time when you were empowered by the Holy Spirit to do something you could not do on your own?
  4. What are some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that you have already received? What are some gifts of the Holy Spirit would like to receive?

End: Pray for any who need to respond to the conviction of the Holy Spirit by accepting Christ, then take requests.
