How to reach a generation w/ questions

Intro: What is the most exiting thing you are doing this summer?

Study

  1. 1 Pet 3:15, Mark 16:15 As we follow Christ by reaching this generation, we must learn how to reach out to those who have questions, and “Question” Christianity.
    1. 1 Tim 4:1-2 This generation, more than any other generation in history is questioning the absolute word of God, right and wrong, and Christianity.
      1. Heb 3:15 Although there are some people who ask sincere questions, there are many who are cynical, mocking, and their questions come from a hard heart
      2. Matt 11:28 Some people sincerely deal with personal questions; they struggle with wondering why God allows certain things to happen.
    2. Titus 3:10, Mt 10:14 While others ask questions looking for an argument, trying to prove their point, attempting to mock Christianity, and provoke you.
  2. John 12:49, Rom 8:14 God has called us to reach out to people in both extremes, but in different ways, this is where we must be led by the Holy Spirit.
    1. Acts 8:29-35 For those who are open to God, and have sincere hearts, God can use church, cell groups, camps, and even you personally to minister to them.
      1. Acts 9:1-6 For those who are cynical, skeptical, and hard hearted, God alone must change their hearts.
      2. 1 Cor 3:6 We shouldn’t argue with hard hearted people rather we should plant seeds, pray for them, back away and let God work in their hearts.
    2. Eph 4:15 We must show the love of Christ to this generation, but at the same time we must not compromise our standards, or the absolutes of the word of God.

Discussion

  1. Can you give an example of a time when God used you to reach out to someone who has questions, or “Questioned” Christianity?
  2. Please give an example of a sincere question people ask, and a question people ask that comes from a cynical, mocking, hard heart?
  3. Can you give an example of when we need to speak the truth, as well as an example of when we should avoid arguing, and walk away?
  4. How can we balance showing the love of Christ to this generation, and at the same time, not compromising the truth, or watering down the gospel?

End: Pray for any who are personally sincerely asking God questions, pray for any cynical hard hearted people you are praying for, pray for camp, then requests.
