Relationships Lesson #4

  “ Friendships“

Intro:   Who is your best friend? How long have you been friends?

Study

  1. Mark 16:15, Matt 6:33 In order for us to have a strong walk with God as well as be as effective as possible in reaching the world, we must put God first in all of our relationships.
    1. 1 Cor 15:33 The Bible tells us that bad company will corrupt good character, so it is extremely important that we are very careful in our relationships.
      1. Prov 13:20 Many Christian youth and young adults are pulled away from God, and  influenced to do wrong by negative friendships in their lives.
      2. Hosea 4:6 Some Christian youth and young adults are not careful in their relationships, and do not use wisdom in who they allow to be their closest friends.
    2. Eph 4:27 The Bible tells us that we are not to give the devil any foothold in our lives, this is especially important when it comes to our friendships.
  2. 1 Cor 5:11, Heb 10:24-25 Our friendships are one of the most important and influential relationships that we have in our lives.
    1. Prov 27:6 When we follow God and choose to only build close friendships with strong Christians, then we are encouraged in our faith and it is much easier to do what is right.
      1. Prov 4:14-15, Prov 18:24 However, if we choose to form friendships with the unsaved,  hypocrites, or with compromising Christians, then we are influenced to do wrong, our  fire for God is put out, and we are held back from fulfilling Gods purpose for our lives.
      2. 2 Cor 6:14,17, John 8:12 God is calling us to separate ourselves from the influence of the sin and compromise around us, and stand firm in our faith so that we can be a light in this dark world around us!
    2. Heb 3:13, Rom 1:11-12 God is calling us to end all wrong relationships, and only form close relationships with those who are strong in their faith and who can help encourage  us to fulfill Gods purpose for our lives, which is to #Reachtheworld!

Discussion

  1. Can you share an example of a time when you were influenced to do something you knew was wrong by a friend of yours?
  2. Why is it extremely important that we as Christians end all wrong relationships that pull us away from God? Why can it be difficult at times for Christians to end wrong relationships?
  3. Who can share an example of a time when you were influenced to do right by a strong Christian friendship in your life?
  4. Why is it essential that we as Christians avoid all wrong relationships, and that we form close friendships with those who are strong in their walk with Christ?

End: Pray for those who need to end any wrong friendships that they have in their lives. Pray for any who want to accept Christ through the sinners prayer, and then take requests.
