“Where are you ?” Lesson #1

“ Where are you at with God?”

Intro: Where were you at when you first accepted Christ?

Study

  1. Genesis 3:8-12 God created Adam and Eve, blessed Adam and Eve in every way, provided everything they would ever need and then gave them instructions they were to obey.
    1. Gen 2:15-17 The instructions and standards of God were not meant to keep Adam and Eve from fun, they were meant to protect them from the pain, hurt, disappointment, suffering and death that comes from sin and turning away from God.
      1. Deut 30:19 As long as Adam and Eve obeyed God and remained in Gods will everything in their lives was good, but when they turned away from God everything went wrong.
      2. Matt 6:33 The same is true for us today, when we serve God, follow God, and obey Gods commands then our lives are blessed in every way.
    2. Luke 15:11-20 But when we choose to disobey God, and run from God then our lives collapse, we have struggles, problems, pain, broken relationships, and feel empty inside.
  2. Gen 3:9 “Where are you?” every day God and man walked together in the garden until one day God showed up and man wasn’t where he was supposed to be, so God asked them an extremely important question, “Where are you?”
    1. Gen 3:10 Adam and Eve had turned from God and were hiding from God because of their sin, guilt and shame.
      1. Joshua 24:15 Today God is asking each of us the same question; “Where are you?” Are you as close to God as you need to be or have you fallen away from God?
      2. Gen 3:4-6 Adam and Eve knew what was right, they knew the commands of God, they knew the love of God but they allowed bad influences to pull them away.
    2. 1 Cor 15:33 There are many youth and young adults today who know whats right deep down inside, but struggle to break free from the strongholds of sin in their lives.
    3. Luke 15:17-20, Ps 86:15 When we return to God no matter what we have done, or how far we have fallen from God, he will take us back, forgive our sin, and begin to restore our lives.

Discussion

  1. Why do you think there are many youth and young adults who start off onfire for God but backslide and fall away from God?
  2. What are some of the wrong influences that pull many youth and young adults away from God?
  3. What are some of the things we can do in our lives personally to make sure we stay on fire for God and keep ourselves from falling into sin and backsliding?
  4. Are there any here tonight who used to be on fire for God but have fallen away? what pulled you away from God? Are you ready tonight to return to God?

End: Pray for any who are not as close to God as they need to be, pray for those who need to get saved, and those who need to rededicate their lives to Christ, then take requests.
