“Where are you ?” Lesson #6

“ Where are you at with your time? (Idleness) ”

Intro: What is your favorite thing to do when you have a day off?

Study

  1. Genesis 3:8-12 God created Adam and Eve, blessed Adam and Eve in every way, provided everything they would ever need and then gave them instructions they were to obey.
    1. Gen 2:15-17 When we obey Gods instructions and remain in Gods will, then our lives are blessed in every way, but when we turn from God then we have many needless problems.
      1. Eph 5:16, Ps 90:12 Our time is a gift from God, and the decisions of what we do with our time have major effects on every area of our lives.
      2. Luke 15:13-15 Many people have problems in their lives because they do not make good decisions on what they do with their time.
    2. 2 Sam 11:1-5 David got into trouble and fell into sin because he was idle and lazy when it was time for him to be at war. We also get in trouble and fall into sin when we become lazy and idle when we should be in prayer, evangelism and serving God in the ministry.
  2. Gal 6:7, Matt 25:15-25 God has given each of us a specific amount of time on the earth, God has also given us the freedom to use our time however we want, but we must remember that each of us will face the consequences and reap the result of what we do with our time.
    1. Prov 16:25 There are people who spend their time living in sin, lust, fornication, addiction, and hypocrisy and end up bound, empty, depressed, confused and on their way to hell.
      1. 1 Thess 5:14,Prov 6;9-11 There are also many people who are idle, waisting their time doing nothing, or doing things that are meaningless, and they end up falling into sin.
      2. Matt 6:33, James 4:6 There are those who choose to humble themselves, repent, and spend their lives helping others to know Christ, and serving God in the ministry! Those who spend their time serving God will be blessed in every way!
    2. Gen 3:9 We each have a choice to make, how will we spend our time? will we waste our time in sin, fornication, idleness and have major problems in our lives, or will we choose to serve God and have a blessed life in every way? “Where are you at with your time?”

Discussion

  1. What are some examples of things that many youth and young adults today waste their time doing?
  2. How can we avoid the trap of waisting the time God has given us living in secret sin, and compromise?
  3. What are some things we can do to make sure we are active serving God in the ministry, rather than being idle and doing nothing?
  4. Is there anyone here tonight who feels God is speaking to you to make some changes in how you spend your time? What changes do you feel God telling you to make?

End: Pray for any who need to accept Christ or recommit their lives to Christ, and pray for any who need to make changes in how they spend their time, then take requests.
